FAQ's

  1. I can't find a particular programme to watch online. Why isn't it there?

Due to copyright restrictions not all of our programmes are availible online at present, however there is a selection of some of our most popular programmes availible on our watch pages. If you are experiencing technical problems with trying to watch content on our watch pages, further information can be found here.

  2. I can't view a particular programme online. Why not?

At present worldwide copyright issues prevent us from enabling all the contents outside the UK. We hope to resolve these issues soon and also hope to be able to broadcast even more programmes online.

  3. When are Channel 4 programmes on S4C?

    See the tv listings

  4. Is S4C Analogue available digitally?

S4C's traditional analogue service, which broadcasts Channel 4's English programmes, is unavailable digitally.

Since S4C was established in 1982, Channel 4's output has been incorporated into our schedules to compensate for the fact that the old analogue system of transmission did not have sufficient capacity to make Channel 4 itself available via Welsh transmitters. That situation will continue until such time as the government decides to switch off analogue broadcasting in the UK.

Digital television enables far more channels to be transmitted alongside each other on all three platforms (digital terrestrial, satellite and cable). Therefore, since Channel 4 itself is now freely available throughout Wales on digital, S4C's digital service is able to concentrate exclusively on broadcasting in Welsh, which is available, as you know on channel 135 on Sky outside Wales.

Within Wales, the transmitters not yet converted to digital broadcasting still carry the S4C analogue service. Those converted carry both S4C Digital and Channel

Satellite viewers throughout the UK have access to both S4C Digital and Channel4.

  5. Is S4C Digital available on Freeview in England?

The only way to receive S4C digital outside Wales at the moment is by satellite on channel 135. You do not have to subscribe to SKY packages to receive the channel.

  9. Is it possible to have a copy of a programme or film shown on S4C?

S4C do not supply copies for members of the public unless there is proof that they are for educational reasons. If you have proof, you should contact S4C Viewers' Hotline in the first instance.

  10. Why is there not English commentary on rugby games shown on S4C?

S4C is keen to take full advantage of new technologies which will allow us to offer enhanced 'red button' services on some programmes on S4C Digidol. However, there are contractual issues which need to be addressed before we can proceed with dual language tracks on certain programmes, including sport. S4C acquires the right to broadcast these events in the Welsh language only, with the English language rights often being granted to another broadcaster. So, for example, S4C shares the broadcast rights to Welsh rugby with the BBC and Sky has the right to broadcast most football matches played in Wales in English. We hope to make a further announcement on this in the near future. Exciting news about Rugby on S4C can be read here.
